It's Not On Them, It's On You

John BoyUk, 28 November

"If someone is slipping up, kindly correct them and point out what they missed. But if you can't, blame yourself — or no one."
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Today's meditation is not really something that I feel I can compare to trading.

An interesting read though and it shows how we can be kind and understanding to others.

I suppose in a trading sense, you could say that it's not on them (the markets) and it is on you to react to whatever happens during a trade. You must manage every trade, fully to completion; unless of course, you are using a set and forget strategy, where a full loss will not damage your bank too much, because of your solid staking plan.

You find your trades, having done your research and used the historical odds/data that you have available to you. As long as these potential trades fully meet the rules/criteria for your strategies, you will enter; but the onus is then on you, to react swiftly and cut a trade short, if it is going against you, at your pre-agreed exit point. You should know your exit point as soon as you are about to enter a trade. Hopefully the trade will go to plan, as the majority of these trades usually do, as they have historically done previously. You must however, be fully concentrated with zero distractions and "in the zone" to be ready to expect the unexpected, so that you are not on the back foot and you can react and respond in a heartbeat.

The trades that go exactly as planned, are easy and you take your targeted pre-event profit. It's the ones that are going against you, that are the tough ones and you must make sure that you are fully prepared to deal with those occasional trades that go against you, effectively. This ensures that you protect your trading bank, so you can be ready for the next battle.

Trading at times, is not about how much profit you can make; but more about how much you can keep!

It's quite simple really; no bank, no trading, so protect it as if your life depended on it!

Remember that it's all on you, to practice making the right decisions when you have to!

You can do it... of course you can; you've got this.
