You're Going To Be OK

John BoyUk, 29 November

"Don't lament this and don't get agitated."
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Today's meditation took me right back to when I first started trading and it's most definitely comparable to how my trading mindset was at the time!

When I first ventured out on my trading journey, I blew a few banks. I had no help or support and definitely learnt the hard way; through my wallet!

The opening paragraph of today's meditation, pretty much summed up my feelings and mood at the time and I quote;

"There's that feeling we get when something happens: It's all over now. All is lost. What follows are complaints and pity and misery--the impotent struggle against something that's already occurred."

I had blown my bank; it was all over now, my money was lost and I felt sick to the stomach! I am sure that some of you will have had the very same feelings, when you were learning to trade, or you may be at the start of your trading journey and it's something you are determined to try and avoid happening to you.

Most people will blow a few banks while they are learning and unfortunately it's the nature of the beast. But it makes us stronger and we dust ourselves down and we go again, making sure that we don't make the same mistakes as last time. We learn from those mistakes and it's all part of the learning curve. Call it your education fees, business costs, whatever you like; but it happens to most people in their early days of learning to trade.

This is why the majority will give up. But if you have that dogged determination to persistently practice again and again, the penny will eventually drop and you will have your own list of do's and don'ts, learning from your experiences along the way.

There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, if you are prepared to put in the hard work and learn from your mistakes. If you can stick rigidly to the rules/criteria for your strategies and concentrate on nothing else; no distractions and outside noise from others; I promise you this; "You're going to be ok"
