We Can Work Any Way

John BoyUk, 2 August

"Indeed, how could exile be an obstacle to a person's own cultivation, or to attaining virtue when no one has ever been cut off from learning or practicing what is needed by exile?"
— Musonius Rufus, Lectures

Today's meditation is a really tough one to try and compare to trading.

I think with trading, you need to have a regular set up that you are familiar with, to be able to trade without creating problems or distractions that you don't need!

I use the same set up, day in, day out and can use this regardless of whether I am trading horse racing or football. My strategies may be different, but my set up and lay out will be the same. Familiarity breeds confidence, consistency and success.

This means that even when I try out a new strategy, I know that I will be familiar with using my set up. It is just a case of trying out the new rules/criteria and putting in the hard work to see if I can make it work for me as well as my tried and trusted strategies. If that ends up being the case, I will then add it to my arsenal of trading strategies.

I only use one main horse racing strategy and 4 football strategies, although I did introduce another football strategy towards the end of last season for the main European leagues, that I am still trialling and it has started positively.

For me this is more than enough to keep me going and I wouldn't advise trying to learn more than one strategy at a time. Get to know it inside out before you even contemplate looking at another strategy!

It is no good to be jack of all trades, if you are master of none! Remember quality over quantity and less is more

So in a trading sense, I would say stick to a way that works for you and you are familiar with, rather than trying to be flexible enough to work any way; that could prove to be extremely difficult!
