"It's ruinous for the soul to be anxious about the future and miserable in advance of misery, engulfed by anxiety that the things it desires might remain its own until the very end. For such a soul will never be at rest — by longing for things to come it will lose the ability to enjoy present things."
— Seneca, Moral Letters
An interesting meditation today and very true!
When I think about this from a trading perspective, it is also an interesting thought process.
Are you worrying about how your trading will go tomorrow? Fearful that things may go wrong?
There is absolutely no point at all doing this, because you can't change what will happen tomorrow; so is there any point needlessly worrying about it? Of course there isn't!
As traders, we want to be the best that we can possibly aspire to. This means that once we have our strategies in place, we must stick to them rigidly, 100% of the time and we must make the right decisions in that moment, during each and every trade that we execute.
You can look at this in two ways really:
1) There is the negative worrying option that something bad might happen during a trade, which in my opinion will only add to putting immense pressure on yourself to get things right, during every trade that you execute. This of course, is the last thing that you want to do!
2) You can trust the stats/data that you have at your disposal and make sure that the rules/criteria for your strategies are fully met for every potential trade. This will give you the added confidence of making the right decisions, through being consistent in your decision making, based on what you are seeing when a trade goes live.
The more that you practice using option two, the more consistent you will become and this in turn, will lead to becoming more confident.
So to summarise, there is no point worrying about how tomorrow's trading will work out. The secret is to make sure that you stick to your rules and that you are fully focused and in the zone to concentrate and fully manage every trade to completion.
As the title of today's meditation states; "Don't be miserable in advance" Life is far too short, so get out there and enjoy your trading journey. You've got this... You can do it for sure!
