The Supreme Court Of Your Mind

John BoyUk, 15 August

"This can be swiftly taught in very few words: virtue is the only good; there is no certain good without virtue; and virtue resides in our nobler part, which is the rational one. And what can this virtue be? True and steadfast judgment. For from this will arise every mental impulse, and by it every appearance that spurs our impulses will be rendered clear."
— Seneca, Moral Letters

Today's meditation is a tough one to compare to trading.

However, to trade successfully, you must develop a consistency to stick to the rules/criteria for your strategies and work hard at becoming the best that you possibly can be. The more you practice, the more familiar you will be with your strategies; which in turn breeds confidence of course.

It becomes easier the more you do it, but you have to put in a lot of hard work and be ready to manage any trades that are going against you, swiftly and without hesitation, to ensure that you protect your trading bank.

It is a long journey of ups and downs, with plenty of downs in your early days as you are learning.

Your mind is your biggest asset, so look after it and treat it kindly. Taking regular walks to clear your mind and help you focus can help; so can meditation and reading. I try to do all three every day.

The last sentence of today's meditation, summarises this perfectly and I quote; "You become the sum of your actions, and as you do, what flows from that--your impulses--reflect the actions you've taken. Choose wisely."

This is why we don't trade on impulse and we take the right actions by trading what we are seeing unfold and not what we expect or hope to see happen. If it goes as we expect or hope, then great; we take our pre-event targeted profit and move on. If it doesn't, we cut the trade short at a controlled pre-agreed cut off point and move on.

If we can master ourselves and stick to the plan on our trading journey, we can deal with anything that the market throws at us.

With patience, discipline, persistence and a dogged determination, it can be done. Get out there and do it! You've got this!
