Things Happen In Training

John BoyUk, 26 April

"When your sparring partner scratches or head-butts you, you don't then make a show of it, or protest, or view him with suspicion or as plotting against you. And yet you keep an eye on him, not as an enemy or with suspicion, but with a healthy avoidance. You should act this way with all things in life. We should give a pass to many things with our fellow trainees. For, as I've said, it's possible to avoid without suspicion or hate."
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

This is very interesting when we translate today's meditation to trading.

So as traders, who are we sparring with? The market of course. Over a period of trading we will catch an elbow or an unfair blow and it is how we deal with those moments that will difine our trading journey.

Our trading journey is a training exercise, as we are constantly looking to improve and to be able to react swiftly to the odd elbow or unfair blow here and there, along the way!

We know that mistakes will be made because at the end of the day we are human beings and it's in our make up. What we want to regularly try and improve, is the speed of our reaction when a trade is going against us, so we are not making a big mistake and putting our bank at risk! This is why cutting our losses at our agreed pre-event exit point, is vital to stay in the game long term and protect our bank in the process.

As traders we are learning every day and we are in training; practising to become better and better.

"Things happen in training"... It is up to ourselves to manage our trades to completion and avoid both mental and capital long term damage, by reacting in a heartbeat at any given moment!
