Be Ruthless To The Things That Don't Matter

John BoyUk, 3 January

"How many have laid waste to your life when you weren't aware of what you were losing, how much was wasted in pointless grief, foolish joy, greedy desire, and social amusements — how little of your own was left to you. You will realize you are dying before your time!"
— Seneca, On The Brevity of Life

Just say "No!

I must admit that I don't like to upset people, but sometimes you get to the point where you just have to say no! After all, you only have so much time in your day to try and fit everything in! When it comes to trading you really have to try and avoid getting angry if a trade doesn't go your way. Anger can lead to chasing losses which develops the wrong mindset and you can quickly end up in a right old mess! Like we said on day one, becoming angry isn't going to change the outcome, as it is out of our control. All we can do is control the red by getting out of our trade early enough when it's not going our way. You also have to be 100% free of any distractions when you are in a trade, or the results can be catastrophic! Another no for me is to avoid over trading. You can easily get sucked into trades that you would be avoiding and it is all too simple to fall into this trap with social media, where everybody has a view and is right in their mind too of course! This is why at TTM we don't encourage tipping as many people would be much better off in the long run, learning a trading strategy for themselves. There are so many tipping services out there and it's always a "No" for me. I use my own strategies that I am comfortable with and if it goes wrong, then the blame is with myself only. If I don't heed my own warning signs and get out for a smaller green, scratch, or small controlled red, then it is nobody's fault but mine. So let's try and be ruthless to the things that don't matter. "No" to getting angry, "No" to allowing ourselves to be distracted whilst in a trade and "No" to the tipsters, paid or free! Let's take full responsibility and ownership of our own trades and be disciplined and focused enough, to trade out nice and early if things aren't going to plan!
