The Cards We're Dealt

John BoyUk, 7 December

"Think of the life you have lived until now as over and, as a dead man, see what's left as a bonus and live it according to Nature. Love the hand that fate deals you and play it as your own, for what could be more fitting?"
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Another heavy meditation again today and the thought of being told that I only had one week to live, or dying and being resuscitated, is not something that I even want to consider, let alone think about at any great length!

With regard to trading, it's the market that provides us with "the cards we're dealt." This is based on our pre-trading position, from using the historical stats/data that we have at our disposal and our expectancy of how the trade will unfold.

When it all goes to plan it feels great as we take our targeted pre-event profit.

As we know and I've written about this over the last few days in my daily journals, trades can go against us from time to time and we must deal with these decisively and swiftly, before they become unmanageable and a threat to our trading bank.

Practising this every time a trade goes against you, will make you a better trader and much more risk averse. You should know where your exit point will be if a trade is going against you, as soon as you enter that trade. You will also be less inclined to be fearful of a trade going against you, because you will have gained the extra confidence of knowing that you can deal with these situations and still end up long term profitable; which is the aim of course.

I commit myself, to working on my discipline every day that I trade. By doing this, I am nurturing and developing good habits to follow, which in time will become almost second nature.

You must develop a high level of discipline and commitment, to stick to your plan rigidly, 100% of the time and you must put in the repetitive hard work, to achieve this and become almost robotic at times too.

This is the difficult side to trading and it's all fine and dandy when things go according to plan.

If you can master yourself, long term profitable trading is within your grasp; I promise you!
