Seeking Out Shipwrecks

John BoyUk, 26 August

"I was shipwrecked before I even boarded . . . the journey showed me this — how much of what we have is unnecessary, and how easily we can decide to rid ourselves of these things whenever it's necessary, never suffering the loss."
— Seneca, Moral Letters

Today's meditation is a tough one to try and compare to trading, but an interesting read.

It can be quite true that sometimes a turn for the worst, can end up being of benefit in the long run!

Things can happen that are out of our control of course and there is no point worrying about something that you cannot change happening!

When it comes to trading, we will make mistakes of course, as we learn on our journey. The trick is to avoid repeating the same mistakes and learn from them!

As we develop a strategy or follow a strategy that we have come across, we must practice and practice to become consistent and confident, so that we know exactly what we are doing. As time goes on, we learn to eradicate mistakes and slowly but surely become profitable.

You need to have bags of patience and the discipline to stick to the rules/criteria for your strategies and there is no quick fix; it is a long and arduous trading journey, but you will eventually see some light at the end of the tunnel if you stick to the plan!

As traders we are certainly not "seeking out shipwrecks" but sometimes even the most unfortunate events, can turn out to be for the best in the long run; as long as we learn from them!
