Binding Our Wishes To What Will Be
"But I haven't at any time been hindered in my will, nor forced against it. And how is this possible? I have bound up my choice to act with the will of God. God wills that I be sick, such is my will. He wills that I should choose something, so do I. He wills that I reach for something, or something be given to me—I wish for the same. What God doesn't will, I do not wish for."
—EPICTETUS, DISCOURSES, 4.1.89
A very interesting meditation today and confirmation that we need to accept, that what happens will happen and that we can't change it, regardless of how much we think it will pan out differently. What will be, will be, so it is vital for us when trading to react to situations, when trades are going against us, before they become unmanageable and a threat to our trading bank!
I love the last paragraph of today's meditation and it is so true when we are trading too; and I quote; "And so it goes with all our ventures. No matter how much preparation, no matter how skilled or smart we are, the ultimate outcome is in the lap of the gods. The sooner we know that, the better we will be."
So although we are hoping that a trade will go our way, due to the stats/data that we have available and it fully meeting the rules/criteria for our strategy, we must be ready and "in the zone" for when it occasionally starts to go against us. This is why we need to have a totally neutral mindset, once our trade goes in play and be ready and prepared to expect the unexpected.
This way we are "binding our wishes to what will be" rather than hoping that our trade goes to plan. This means that we avoid ending up in the land of hope, by reacting accordingly, if a trade starts to go against us.
With the correct trading mindset and being able to react to what you are seeing in a heartbeat, you can do this; I promise you!
