Start With Where The World Is

John BoyUk, 8 August

"Do now what nature demands of you. Get right to it if that's in your power. Don't look around to see if people will know about it. Don't await the perfection of Plato's Republic, but be satisfied with even the smallest step forward and regard the outcome as a small thing."
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Today's meditation is a very interesting read, but extremely difficult to try and compare to trading!

The only comparison that I can think of really, is the mention of taking small steps, that would help move things forward.

This is something that we must do as traders, when we start out on our trading journey. This is primarily because we learn by our mistakes in the early days, as we test and try out strategies.

If we put off doing things because the conditions aren't right, or we decide to wait and hope that a better opportunity comes along soon, all we are doing is delaying getting stuck in and we can end up always fearful of taking the plunge and never get around to starting anything!

So as it says in today's meditation and I quote; "Do what you can, now. And when you've done it, keep it in perspective, don't overblow the results. Shun both ego and excuse, before and after"

Yes, you will make mistakes along the way; we all do and that is part and parcel of trading. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, because this is how we learn become better with experience.

As I have said many times when writing these daily journals; the more we practice and stick to our strategies, the more confident and consistent we will become. This is the way to becoming successful and profitable in the long term.

Don't create stumbling blocks and/or barriers for yourself! Stick to the long term plan. You can do it!
